Whitefly Control using Parasites
Whitefly Control using Parasites

These .7 mm. stingless wasps are very effective for prevention, and they can control small-scale infestations as well. We recommend them only for indoor use. Ideal conditions are between 68 and 77 degrees F, with relative humidity of 70% or less. They can live in a variety of conditions, but cooler temperatures will slow their reproduction and development. They cannot fly when temperatures fall below 62 degrees, but as long as it is not that cold all day, that should not affect their performance. They live roughly three weeks in their immature stages, and then up to a month as adults. Each wasp lays up to 200 eggs in whitefly pupae, destroying each one. Large amounts of honeydew can slow the wasps. Honeydew deposits can be removed with warm water. Ants should also be controlled, since they will defend whiteflies from parasites. In order for these wasps to be effective, the release site must be brightly lit. The length of the day is not important, but it must be bright, with a minimum of 650 footcandles. On sunny days, most greenhouses are bright enough.
